February Meeting

Stephen Yeo

The Royal Air Force Museum
David Keen

Thursday 27th February
7.30 pm at Avenue House

2025 is the 80th anniversary of VE day. On February 27 David Keen will tell us the story of the historic site at Hendon, from the days of aviation pioneer Claude Grahame-White through the Hendon air shows of the twenties and thirties, to the role played by RAF Hendon in both World Wars, and the development of the RAF Museum.

For as long as he can remember, David Keen has been fascinated by aeroplanes and by the people who designed, built, maintained and flew them. He was a primary school headteacher before embarking on a second career at the Royal Air Force Museum, where he led the Museum’s Access and Learning Team. David regarded this as a dream job: he never expected that anyone would pay him to talk about Spitfires, but they did. David retired in September 2016, but immediately became voluntary curator for his local history society. which is working to establish a museum.

The meeting will take place at Avenue House, located at Stephens House and Gardens, 17 East End Road, Finchley N3 3QE. It will begin at 7.30 pm.
