March Meeting

Stephen Yeo

The Silvery Goon
Jane and Silé Milligan
Thursday, March 27
7.30 pm at Avenue House

Jane and Silé Milligan will describe the journey taken by their father’s archive, from Bayswater in London and Rye in East Sussex to the Lodge at Avenue House.

Spike Milligan died in 2002, but his creative estate continued to be run by Norma Farnes, his manager for some fifty years. Following her death in 2019, the family were faced with the option of taking over the running of the company Spike Milligan Productions. As Jane and Silé recall, “There really was no question. We took over as directors of the company, and then we had the task of collecting what was left of the estate and bringing it all together in one place. We rescued the last of Spike’s belongings from two locations. Some of it was housed in a large cupboard in the cellar at Orme Court in Bayswater, his office for many years. The rest of it was in a storage unit in Rye, his final resting place. Having secured the Lodge as a suitable location for Spike’s archive and as a place to run his company, we now find ourselves in the grounds of the wonderful Avenue House Estate, or Stephens House and Gardens as it is now known.”

The evening will end with a song: lyrics by Spike Milligan, music by Alan Clare

The meeting will take place in Avenue House, located at Stephens House and Gardens, 17 East End Road, Finchley N3 3QE. It will begin at 7.30 pm.
